*** ACCEPTING NEW GROUP THERAPY CLIENTS ***
This is a therapy group designed for Asian men who are feeling disconnected in their relationships and environment, and wanting to find a space to express themselves and better connect with others. Through this process group, you will not only get to connect with other Asian men and learn from their experiences, but learn more about yourself and your patterns in relating to others. You will get opportunities to practice communicating with vulnerability and feeling more comfortable with emotional intimacy in relationships. You will get to explore the experience of masculinity, your Asian identity, and the ways in which this intersection affects the challenges you face and ways that you may interact with the world around you. This may include areas of your life such as romantic relationships, family, friendships, career, and sexuality.
Meets weekly on Mondays from 5:30-7pm in January-March* 2025
10 in-person sessions, 90 min each
Meetings will be held at Georgetown Healing Arts
$65/session (limited need-based sliding scale spots are available)
Group therapy is a type of psychotherapy that involves a small group of clients and at least one trained mental health clinician. It is often more affordable than individual therapy and its structure can vary significantly from a skills-based, psychoeducation group to a peer support group. It can be a good opportunity to try out different, new ways of connecting with others that you might not yet feel comfortable doing in your daily life.
This group will be a hybrid between a peer support and processing group. Participants will be developing skills and psychoeducation, but they will also get to practice providing support to and receiving support from other participants as well.
This group will span 10 sessions and meets weekly, with some adjustments for participant schedules. In order to build the trust necessary to invite vulnerability within the group, I ask that participants join with the intention of attending all sessions (while knowing that unexpected life events may happen).
Participants are asked to pay a deposit equal to the cost of 5 sessions ($325 at the full $65/session rate) to hold your spot and pay for any subsequent sessions you attend after the first 5 as you go along. This means you are committing to 5 sessions and can reassess whether you’d like to continue with the remaining 5 after you’ve gotten a sense of the group.
I am facilitating this group because through my work as a mental health counselor and community member, I’ve noticed a need for more resources and spaces for Asian men’s mental health. My experience as an Asian woman allows me to have a perspective that sees masculinity from a different point of view that can help clients navigate the tensions within their experiences. As a facilitator in this process group, I will be creating and maintaining a confidential and supportive environment rather than directing participants on what to do.
The group is not exclusive to cis men. It is open to anyone who identifies as an Asian man and feels called to a space that centers Asian masculinity.
Unfortunately, I am unable to bill insurance for the group at this time. If cost is a barrier, please reach out and let me know as sliding scale spots are available.
Prior experience with therapy is not required, but can be really helpful for participants in their self-reflection process.
