Asian Men’s Group

*** ACCEPTING NEW GROUP THERAPY CLIENTS ***

This is a therapy group designed for Asian cis men who are feeling disconnected in their relationships and environment, and wanting to find a space to express themselves and better connect with others. Through this process group, you will not only get to connect with other Asian cis men and learn from their experiences, but learn more about yourself and your patterns in relating to others. You will get opportunities to practice communicating with vulnerability and feeling more comfortable with emotional intimacy in relationships. You will get to explore the experience of masculinity, your Asian identity, and the ways in which this intersection affects the challenges you face and ways that you may interact with the world around you. This may include areas of your life such as romantic relationships, family, friendships, career, and sexuality.

This group centers the experiences of those with all of the following identities:

  • I was born in the US or I have been residing in the US for at least the last 4 years

  • I am a cis man (I was assigned male at birth and continue to identify as male)

FAQs

Group therapy is a type of psychotherapy that involves a small group of clients and at least one trained mental health clinician. It is often more affordable than individual therapy and its structure can vary significantly from a skills-based, psychoeducation group to a peer support group.

I am facilitating this group because through my work as a mental health counselor and community member, I’ve noticed a need for more resources and spaces for Asian men’s mental health. My experience as an Asian woman allows me to have a perspective that sees masculinity from a different point of view that can help clients navigate the tensions within their experiences. As a facilitator in this process group, I will be creating and maintaining a confidential and supportive environment rather than directing participants on what to do.

Due to my capacity, I am limiting the group to Asian cis men in order to center the specific experiences of people who are socialized as male and continue to navigate society as a man. I want to be able to provide a space of holding for all group members and feel that I can best do that by limiting the scope of the group. As the group grows and evolves, this requirement may also change.

Unfortunately, I am unable to bill insurance for the group at this time. If cost is a barrier, please reach out and let me know as sliding scale spots are available.

Prior experience with therapy is not required, but can be really helpful for participants in their self-reflection process.
